Firm Spins Microwave Design Team
Devon-based microwave products specialist The Waveguide Solution (TWS) has spawned a company to offer design, development and validation services to the RF and microwave industry.
The new firm will be called RF Microwave Design (RFMwD).
Ben Cartridge, business development director at TWS, said that existing design companies do not have access to the machining, manufacturing, and supply chain experience that the new firm can offer. Instead they just provide a design on paper.
"We believe we have identified a huge potential for outsourced design, said Cartridge. "We would like our customers to see the company as an extension of their design department. Customers come from the medical, military, aerospace, and telecommunications markets.
All the RFMwD orders to date have come from the UK, but it is currently quoting to Europe customers.
"At the moment we are UK-based, but through the agent networks we have from TWS we will be taking it worldwide, said Cartridge.
Three directors from TWS and its sister company, The Supply Solution (TSS), have been joined by two design engineers from Quasar Microwave Technology and Andrew Corp, to form RFMwD.
Since TWS and TSS were set up two years ago, the firms have grown their staff from 12 to 55. During their second year of trading combined turnover was £3.1m, and TWS alone increased its turnover by 64 per cent last year.
"We have expanded a lot into a Europe, and we are actually doing a fair bit in the Far East as well, but we have won some significant contracts with the likes of [missile specialist] MBDA in Europe, said Cartridge.
